Flower shop with same-day delivery orders
Flower sales differ from general e-commerce in three ways: delivery timing is critical, sender and recipient are different people, and demand spikes on holidays. An order form that misses these three points fails worst on the busiest days.
1. Delivery window: day is not enough
"Same-day delivery" isn't specific enough — flowers often need to arrive by a milestone (birthday, ceremony, opening). Offer delivery windows:
- Morning (9 AM–12 PM)
- Afternoon (12 PM–5 PM)
- Evening (5 PM–8 PM)
Also write the cutoff: "For same-day delivery, orders close at 3 PM."
2. Sender and recipient: separate people
The order form has two different people: the payer and the recipient. Collect name, phone, and address for both separately. The recipient's phone is critical — if no one's home, the driver calls them.
Also have a card message field: the message is half the product.

3. Product and variant setup
For the same bouquet, define "small/medium/large" as variants on one product. Options like vase/no-vase, boxed/unboxed are the same.
Be honest in photos: show what customers expect to receive. A "flowers vary by season" note prevents the most common complaint.

4. Peak-day capacity
Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, holidays — unfulfilled orders from peak days are the year's costliest mistake. Two safeguards:
- Set a daily order limit that closes the day when hit.
- Reduce delivery windows and cap orders per window.
5. Payment
Two scenarios both common:
- Card online — sender is distant (different city, overseas), only option.
- Cash-on-delivery — local orders still prefer it.
Corporate orders (openings, events) require invoices.

6. Delivery confirmation and proof
When delivered, mark the order "delivered" and notify the sender when possible. For flowers, the sender never sees the product — delivery info IS the product.

Common mistakes
Not writing final order cutoff. A 5 PM "same-day" order you can't fulfill.
Not asking for recipient phone. #1 reason deliveries fail.
Taking unlimited orders on peak days. Unfulfilled = refund + bad review.
Skipping the seasonal note. "Not like the photo" complaints vanish with one sentence.
