When do you need a multi-language site?

Multi-language sites aren't for everyone — but where needed, they directly drive revenue. Short answer: if part of your customers don't speak your language, a second language is needed. This guide ties decisions to concrete situations and shows how setup works.

Who truly needs it?

Definitely needed:

  • Tourist area restaurants, cafes, hotels, tours, transfers, diving/boat
  • Medical tourism (dentistry, hair, cosmetic, eye)
  • Selling handmade or boutique to foreign customers
  • Shipping internationally
  • Foreign residents in the area (real estate)

Usually not needed:

  • Neighborhood tradesman, local services (plumbing, haircut) — unless many expats in area
  • Working only with local corporate customers

Which languages?

Think in sequence: who is your customertourist profile visiting your areayour international sales target. Five languages done halfway is worse than two languages done well; but if content auto-generates, language count doesn't cost extra.

Wibigo supports 12 languages and shows the right language to visitors by location.

Currency matters more than language

A foreign visitor who doesn't see prices in their currency will math-convert and leave. Prices show to visitors in their local currency.

Translation isn't localization

  • Measurement/format: dates, hours, distance, sizes
  • Payment habits: cash-on-delivery common in some markets, card in others
  • Communication channel: WhatsApp standard in some countries, not others
  • Tone: formality level varies by language

Setup checklist

1. All pages must translate. English homepage + German-only contact page breaks trust.

2. Menu and service names translate too. If product list stays one language, translation feels incomplete.

3. Contact info stays the same. Address, phone, map work in all languages.

SEO side

When each language has its own pages, search knows which language is which and ranks accordingly. Mixing languages on one page (half-Turkish half-English text) is the worst approach.

Common mistakes

Translating only the homepage. Visitor clicks once and gets lost.

Using auto-translate plugin. Menu and price mistranslations kill trust.

Forgetting currency. Language is right, but prices are confusing; no conversion.

No contact channel for foreign visitors. WhatsApp or email beats phone for reach.
