Set up automatic welcome messages
When a customer messages you on Messenger, Instagram DM, or WhatsApp, a Welcome message can be sent automatically until you reply. That way your customer doesn't wonder "did my message get through?", and you can send your real answer when you're ready.
Welcome messages are set up separately for each channel — you can turn it on for Messenger and leave it off for WhatsApp.
Setup
- Open the Automations button in the top bar of Messages or My Website.
- Go to your channel group — Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp.
- Turn on the switch for the Welcome message card.
- Type your message in the Message to send field. Keep it short and honest:
Hi! We received your message and will get back to you as soon as possible. 💬
- Choose When should it be sent?:
- Only on the first message — sends once when a customer messages you for the first time on that channel; won't send on follow-up messages.
- On every new conversation — sends at most one welcome message per conversation within 24 hours; customers won't get bombarded.
The setting is saved instantly; there's no separate "save" step.
Only on the first message is the right choice for most businesses. On every new conversation is for businesses that get a lot of off-hours messages and want to greet each conversation.
If the card says "Connection required"
That channel isn't connected to Wibigo yet — welcome messages only work when messages land in your inbox. First, connect the channel: Connect WhatsApp and Instagram
Rules you should know
- Only incoming messages trigger it. Messages you send or conversations you start don't generate a welcome message.
- No backdating. Messages that arrived before you turned on welcome messages won't get any reply — when you turn it on, no one gets a message for old conversations.
- The welcome message appears in your inbox. It sits in the conversation as a regular outgoing message; you always know what your customer saw.
- The same person isn't welcomed twice in quick succession. Even in On every new conversation mode, the same conversation gets at most one welcome message in 24 hours.
